With Paris Hilton’s trip to Rwanda being postponed until next year, the hotel heiress has attached herself to a new cause. Paris has decided to launch a campaign to help save elephants from getting drunk. (This is not a joke)
She first became aware of the problem when she heard the news that came out of India last week, in which six elephants got drunk off of villagers rice beer were killed after hitting a high-tension electric pole outside the Indian village of Chandan Nukat.
Hilton told the Daily Mail:
There would have been more casualties if the villagers hadn’t chased them away. And four elephants died in a similar way three years ago. It is just so sad. The biggest problems are in Assam and Meghalaya. The elephants get drunk all the time. It is becoming really dangerous. We need to stop making alcohol available to them.
Although we are sure the media will have a field day with this, it does sound like Paris is genuinely concerned. It is good to see her sticking with her post-jail pledge to try to make a difference in the world. It is a very odd cause, but at least she is trying.
