Both Jennifers (Garner-top, Connelly-below) looked amazing at the Glamour magazine Women of the Year awards on Monday Night at the Lincoln Center in NYC, but it was Jennifer Garner who was being honored.
The magazine named her ’Woman of the Year’ Awards for being a good example of a woman who can have a “successful career and happy family life while remaining stylish and elegant.” Garner was recently named by The American Lung Association as the new national “Face of Influenza” for their awareness campaign.
In a recent interview with Glamour Magazine she talked about why she isn’t able to be a diva:
You totally called me out. I am a bit of a goody-goody. Not that there aren’t times when I think, I was kind of an asshole today. I work in a world in which people are really catered to; someone will come up to me and say, “Is it OK if this person’s makeup is done before yours for the premiere?” Right now Ben’s in Africa studying malaria and visiting slums with a lack of potable water and maternity wards where many women have HIV. So would I really put my energy into worrying that I’m second to get my makeup done? When you think about the bigger picture, it’s hard to not have some perspective.
Singer Mariah Carey opened the show with her song ”Hero” and was accompanied by the African Children’s Choir. Other award recipients included Nobel-prize winning novelist Toni Morrison, golfer Lorena Ochoa, little actress Abigail Breslin, journalist Lara Logan, and Dr. Victoria Hale among others. Also in attendance were Claire Danes, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Portia De Rossi, Eric Dane and Brooke Shields.
This year Glamour is proud to launch the Women of the Year Fund initiative, which will raise money for charities that support the inspiring projects of one of our honorees each year. The first group to receive support from this initiative is Empowering Hands.
Empowering Hands is a group of former girl-soldiers from Uganda who were abducted as children and survived the most unthinkable horrors while in captivity, yet returned home with enough strength to help other former captives heal.
You can read more about them and see a video here.
