Reese On A Roll

reese-witherspoon-beat-the-odds.jpgWe mentioned yesterday thatReese Witherspoon had just recently been named the first-ever Honorary Chairperson of the Avon Foundation.  Her philanthropic calendar has really been full this month.   Last night, she attended  The Children’s Defense Fund’s 17th Annual Los Angeles Beat the Odds Awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

The CDF, founded in 1973,  is a program set up to help ensure that American children receive a Healthy, Fair, Safe and Moral head start in life. The organization pays particular attention to children in poor financial situations and with disabilities.

Witherspoon got inspired to participate in the organization after reading the founder, Marian Wright Edelman’s book The Measure of Our Success as a sophomore at Stanford University and then again after hitting a rough patch with her career.

Since getting involved, Reese has regularly participated in voluntary fund-raising events, contributed financially, and donated all of the proceeds from the Legally Blonde Barbie Dolls and meets with each year’s college–scholarship winners.

Other celebrities in attendance included Keri Russell, Lisa Kudrow, Jane Kaczmarek, Bradley Whitford, and Elisabeth Shue.

Do you want to do your part?

Take a few minutes to visit the Children’s Defense Fund Website and send an email to Congress letting them know you want them to make children their top priority.
